Coffee growers in Hawaii are pushing for a new law that may enforce the inclusion of certain information on printed labels.
Groups from the Kona district in the US state want the law changing so that labels must show where the beans in certain blends come from.
At the moment the law dictates that coffee labelled as Hawaiian grown must contain at least ten per cent beans grown in the region and printed labels need to clearly show the exact percentage.
Now coffee growers are pushing for labels to show exactly where the other beans originate.
"The name Kona should not be used on any products that's not mostly Kona," said Colehour Bondera, the Kona coffee growers association's president
"When people talk about wines, you can't a buy a Napa wine when it's only 10 percent Napa."
The Consumer Federation of America's Food Policy Institute recently urged printed labels on alcohol to contain more information about calorie content.
