A company has won an award for its green packaging, something that could prompt other brands to attach their printed labels to more environmentally-friendly materials.
Ecologic Brands won the Best Green 4Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle and recover) prize at the International Green Awards, Packaging Europe reports.
It created a bottle that uses a smart lining in order to cut down on its use of raw materials and make the end product recyclable.
The outer shell is made from recycled boxes and newspapers than can be composted, while the inner is a recyclable pouch using 75 per cent less plastic than a standard bottle.
Julie Corbett from Ecologic Brands said the recognition is an honour.
"After more than three years of research and development, we have created an entirely new solution that advances authentic environmental change," she added.
Last month, Mattel announced it is to increase the amount of recycled and sustainable fibres it uses by 70 per cent by the end of 2011 and by 85 per cent to the end of 2015.
