Manufacturers of food products may be prompted to alter their printed labels after consumers were urged to look for nutrition facts over buzz words.
Robin Kaiden, a registered dietitian, told KGW.com that there are some "very vague" terms on food products at present, particularly with declarations like 'all natural'.
She pointed out that while peanut butter can be healthy, some brands are made with hydrogenated oil and so are not.
Meanwhile, some brands introduce similar products, but while one is full of sugar, the other may not be.
Ms Kaiden concluded that carefully examining peelable labels is the only way to ensure healthy eating, but companies may be encouraged to change them slightly following her advice.
Last month, Bath and North East Somerset Council called on the coalition government to reassess the printed labels it uses for allergy warnings on foods after finding that some stickers are misleading or confusing for sufferers.
