Demand for pharmaceutical labels could be set to rise in the UK after the government outlined proposals to give councils more control over healthcare spending.
Under plans outlined this week by the coalition, local authorities will be free to choose how they spend a ring-fenced healthcare budget from April 2013 onwards.
According to health secretary Andrew Lansley, this will allow councils to improve public health in their region and address local concerns.
"Every area of the country is different, so councils will be able to decide what the most important public health concern is for them and spend the money appropriately," he commented.
Mr Lansley said giving local authorities more power to make these decisions is the right move, as it will help them address many issues that affect the country's wellbeing.
This comes after the government confirmed an extra £100 million is being invested in the NHS to improve services across the country.
