Vans full of counterfeit goods were seized in Essex this week as part of a police crackdown on rogue trading.
Officers and Essex County Council's Trading Standards representatives stopped more than 50 vehicles on the A414 and M11 to check what they were carrying, the Brentwood Gazette reports.
Two vans were found to be transporting thousands of pounds' worth of fake designer goods including clothing and handbags, resulting in several people being arrested.
Police seized the contents, which was believed to be being taken to North Weald Market and could have netted the criminals £30,000.
Counterfeiting is becoming an increasing problem in the UK as unscrupulous individuals attempt to make more money in the tough economic climate.
In particular, alcohol is being made and sold illegally in large quantities, resulting in warnings being issued to shoppers and retailers.
Specialist printed labels may help in the fight against fakes, with holograms or scratch-off panels able to prove products are genuine.
