Denny Bros Ltd, the creator of Fix-a-Form, the original multi-page leaflet label, has recently invested over £7000 in new warehouse lighting, as part of an ongoing plan to reduce energy usage and make significant cost savings.
The new lighting was installed at the specialist printers’ Kempson Way facility in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Fifteen existing metal halide lamps, which used over 7KWh of power and offered an average lamp life of around 20,000 hours each, were replaced with induction lamps which have a life of around 100,000 hours. Crucially, the new lamps use less than half the power without compromising light levels.
In addition, Denny Bros also fitted the warehouse aisles with sensors to ensure that lights are only switched on when staff are working in that area.
The overall effect of these new measures is a reduction in power usage by over 80%, saving 8 tonnes of CO2 each year and the capital investment is expected to offer a payback of around 2 years. Denny Bros is also looking at introducing other energy saving schemes on the Kempson Way site, particularly in the factory and offices.
These initiatives are all part of Denny Bros’ ongoing commitment to become a truly green supplier. The company is committed to reducing carbon emissions and conducting all operations in an environmentally-responsible manner.
In 2008 Denny Bros achieved accreditation to BS EN ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Systems, the internationally recognised standard.
