Flawed packaging designs and a lack of communication between designers and manufacturers are costing brands all over the world hundreds of millions of pounds, experts have said.

At the Processing and Packaging Machinery Association show in Birmingham recently, a debate organised by the Packaging Society saw delegates from both sides point out problems in creating appropriate vessels for products to be presented in, FoodManufacture.co.uk reports.

Richard Bull from a sealing machinery supplier highlighted the issue of new packaging being created that will not fit through production line machinery, citing one instance in which a brand brought in bigger bottle caps without notifying the manufacturers.

"It is a problem for big brand owners as well as small firms," he added.

If fitting information on to ever-decreasing box or bottle sizes is a problem, Fix-a-Form peelable labels could be one solution.

They fold completely flat against the front of packaging and can present pages of details on a tiny surface area, making them ideal for special promotions or coupons.
