Pharmaceutical labels are likely to contribute to the growth of the international packaging industry over the next few years.
According to estimates from Pira International, the sector will be worth nearly $830 billion (£524 billion) in four years' time.
The healthcare sector has been flagged up as one of the main drivers of this growth, as it is among the primary users of packaging around the world.
Indeed, this particular segment of the market is set to be worth more than £21 billion by 2016. This will be fuelled by 4.5 per cent growth each year.
The food and drinks sector was also said to be making extensive use of packaging, along with cosmetics firms.
Pira International added that the biggest packaging consumer in the world is the US, ahead of the likes of China and India.
However, the organisation believes China will overtake the US within the next five years.
