Heinz uses promotional labels to highlight free range eggs 31/08/2011

Heinz is to use new-style promotional labels to highlight the fact that it will now only be using free range eggs in its mayonnaise.

The manufacturer will also redesign its packaging and change its product name to Heinz Mayonnaise to bring the items in line with its Heinz foodservice offerings, Farming UK reports.

Consumers will be offered their money back if they do not like the new taste of the products and coupons will be printed on to peelable labels to provide money-off incentives.

The new Heinz Mayonnaise will have a dark blue label, while its low-fat counterpart will have a pale blue label.

"All consumer facing foodservice packs [will have been aligned] by the end of the summer," said Heinz spokesperson Nicky Cummerfield.

Hellmans changed to use only free range eggs in its mayonnaise in 2008.

The RSPCA states that around 50 per cent of the 34 million egg-laying hens reared in 2010 were kept in cages.
