Nestle celebrates 75 years of Quality Street 10/11/2011

Shoppers who buy tins of Quality Street this Christmas may find promotional labels attached featuring giveaways as the chocolate selection celebrates 75 years in 2011.

Nestle pointed out that Quality Street revolutionised the way sweets were made and sold when they were first manufactured in Halifax in 1936, as they had previously been very expensive.

By bringing in a twist-wrapping machine, Nestle could make chocolates cheaply enough for working families to buy and Quality Street rose to become the world's number one selling boxed chocolate assortment.

Alex Hutchinson, heritage assistant for Nestle UK, explained that people still love the nostalgia of Quality Street and sharing a tin for special occasions such as Christmas.

The brand has moved with the times though, changing its packaging to be entirely recyclable back in 2009.

Nestle may decide to produce booklet labels featuring giveaways to honour Quality Street's 75th birthday. In the past, it has run a variety of competitions for products including KitKat for consumers to enjoy.
