A new board member has been appointed to the Healthcare Compliance Packaging Council (HCPC), which oversees the role of printed labels in informing patients and ensuring they stick to their medical regimen.

Dr Ted Lithgow is a chief science officer at MeadWestvaco Corporation and will bring a wealth of experience to the healthcare organisation's board.

Commenting on his election victory, Mr Lithgow said: "HCPC serves an important role as an advocate for improving patient adherence to medicines through packaging, and I am pleased to serve on HCPC's board with so many distinguished members of the adherence packaging community."

He added that he looks forward to working closely with said members and driving the organisation's printed labels agenda forward.

The organisation is made up of a number of pharmaceutical packaging specialists and it believes that clear labelling can help to improve medical outcomes.

Recently, design expert Tim Clarke told Pharmaceutical Technology magazine that pharmaceutical packaging with clear pharma fix-a-form labels can help safeguard patients by ensuring they take their medication properly.
