Pharma labels for drugs going to hot and humid countries could soon be attached to a new type of packaging.
Honeywell in the US has revealed it has developed a type of pharmaceutical packaging film that provides a barrier for moisture-sensitive medicines and still allows clear identification of the products inside.
It is called Aclar UltRx 6000 and could also reduce packaging sizes by more than half compared to traditional blister packs.
Jeff Czarnecki, global leader of Honeywell's health care and packaging business, said: "This new film will help pharmaceutical companies around the world protect their medicines, simplify their supply chains and improve their branding."
It was recently reported by Mobiledia.com that bespoke pharma labels featuring scratch cards were to be added to medical products going to developing countries in a bid to beat counterfeiting.
The Economic Times reported that the initiative was to be trialled in India, a country that has a particular problem with fake medication being sold.
