New wine labels commemorate important US battle 14/11/2011

A wine manufacturer in the US has commemorated an important Civil War battle by designing special printed labels for its bottles.

Prince Michel Winery unveiled its new labels at a meeting of the Friends of Cedar Mountain Battlefield group, the Star Exponent reports.

It is 150 years since the hostilities between Union and Confederate forces culminated in a bloody engagement in Culpeper County, Virginia, in August 1862.

Although they were nearly driven back, the Confederates eventually broke the Union line and emerged victorious.

The new labels will be featured on special bottles of Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay over the festive period.

"All the funds raised will be going to preservation efforts and making the battlefield more visitor-friendly," said Friends of Cedar Mountain board member Virginia Morton.

Drinks manufacturers who want to produce special editions could find auto-collars useful.

These are multi-page labels that can be applied to bottlenecks to provide promotional information or remind consumers of the previous packaging and may help to boost sales.
