Companies designing pharmaceutical labels must take into account the possibility that their products may be recalled.
This is according to Mike Rozembajgier from Stericycle ExpertRECALL, who told PharmPro.com that firms need a plan in place in case something goes wrong, even if they have followed reasonable safety precautions and quality control measures.
"Having an effective labelling system in place can help companies effectively manage any return scenarios, withdrawals and recalls they may face, regardless of the cause," he commented.
Mr Rozembajgier recommended equipping pharma labels with tracking facilities so they can easily be pulled from stores and taken to storage facilities.
However, the expert added that prevention is better than cure and urged manufacturers to pay careful attention to labels to ensure they have accurate language and correct contents inside.
Last month, medical technology company Fenwal and Biolog-id announced they had created a new system that should make tracking donated blood much easier.
