Police in Singapore are hoping that a new system using printed labels will cut bike theft in the country.
The force in Whampoa recently launched an initiative with the National Crime Prevention Council that allows cyclists to have security labels attached to the seat tube of their vehicles, the Straits Times reports.
It means that if they are stolen, they can be tracked and hopefully reunited with their owners. This could also mean thieves are less likely to take them in the first place.
Police officers say the measures could be particularly useful for people who do not have secure storage facilities at home or at work.
The idea of using printed labels on seats could be advantageous in the UK. New figures from the Economic Policy Centre and Police UK show that there has been an increase in bike theft lately, with stealing from sheds, yards and garages up 13 per cent, the Daily Mail reported.
