QR codes 'could be helpful for consumers and brands' 23/09/2011

Adding quick response (QR) codes to printed labels has been recommended as an easy way to get people involved with products and provide them with more details.

John Hartman, an instructor in social media at Portland State University, told the Oregonian they can provide access to exclusive content or simply create a buzz around a brand.

"QR codes can be the bridge between digital and the real world, enabling the consumer to get more information on products and services," he commented.

The expert pointed out that they can be added to anything from peelable labels to clothing and are being utilised in more creative ways every day.

Speaking at the recent the Denny Bros Ltd open day, Chris Penfold of Design Cognition said he expects to see an increase in augmented reality functions on printed labels in the years to come, Packaging Europe reported.

Booklet labels could also be a simpler way to boost consumer information, perhaps by adding money-off coupons to packaging.
