The recycling of environmentally-friendly printed labels has remained resilient despite continued concerns about the UK's economy.
According to the Environment Agency, 1.81 million tonnes of packing - including peelable labels - were sent for recycling over the summer.
This is slightly less than the amount sent for recycling between July and September 2010, but the EA claims it is consistent with its expectations.
Chris Taylor, from recycling and compliance specialist Clarity Environmental, said that the future of the reprocessing sector is less certain and prices for recyclable goods could fall.
"This could lead to increased lack of interest from some reprocessors but the market is looking stable," he concluded.
Recently, Elizabeth Shoch from GreenBlue and the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, told Chemical & Engineering News that consumers are increasingly demanding recyclable packaging.
She noted that one of the main problems is that packaging is made from a huge array of different materials, which often cannot be separated by reprocessors.
