Retailers are sure to be hoping piggyback labels and other promotional tactics encourage shoppers to splash their cash ahead of the royal wedding.
According to Sky News, shops are expecting a busy period tonight (April 28th 2011) and tomorrow as people stock up on party food for the bank holiday.
Richard Dodd from the British Retail Consortium said the prospect of a second long weekend in a row and the royal wedding has led consumers to forget the economic doom and gloom for a while.
"There's definitely a buzz around the occasion and customers will be restocking after Easter, ready for parties and more family events," he added.
Meanwhile, shoppers are likely to be checking promotional labels more carefully after a report from Which? found some supermarkets to be advertising promotions that were not available.
Some 43 per cent of people reported paying full price at the till for goods that were supposed to be on offer.
