Mobile phone manufacturer Sprint is redesigning its packaging in its bid to go green.
The firm will be reviewing its handsets to make them as sustainable as possible, including the use of recyclable material and plastics, as well as shunning the use of PVC, pthlalates and brominated flame retardant.
Currently around 50 per cent of its models are achieving the green certification standards set out by UL Environment, with the firm hoping to increase that to 70 per cent over the next year.
Sprint claims it will use more green packaging too – including unbleached paper, water-based adhesives and environmentally friendly inks for printed labels and boxes.
A popular choice for firms looking to become more environmentally friendly is to shrink packaging and then use peelable orbooklet labels to ensure the necessary information is included.
Recently, Diageo, which makes Smirnoff and Guinness, also announced plans for greener labels in a bid to cut the weight of product packaging by ten per cent.
