Walk aims to raise over £4,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer
A sea of pretty pink outfits and a whole host of happy smiles signalled the start of the 2011 Walk on the Westside charity event for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
On a day of glorious sunshine, the event at Ickworth House on 19 May attracted more than 100 participants who were all hoping to beat last year’s fund raising total of £4,000.
Organisers of this sixth event - the Suffolk Breakthrough Breast Cancer group - were delighted with the turn out.
This was the first year that Denny Bros had been the main sponsor, although the company has supported the event in previous years.
Graham Denny, Commercial Director, said: ‘We were asked this year to be main sponsor and as cancer is something that we have all had experience of at some time or another we thought everyone would agree that it was a very good cause.’
Nicola Salisbury and Paula Starie from Denny Bros marketing team volunteered to take part in the walk which aimed, not only to raise funds but also, to increase awareness of the disease.
Participants walked either four or 11 miles through the grounds at Horringer, near Bury St Edmunds.
Speaking about the event which was just a ‘walk in the park’ for the Denny Bros ladies, Paula Starie commented: ‘While the day had a very relaxed and calm feel to it, it was also great fun. There was a very light-hearted atmosphere which made it all the more enjoyable.’
‘We both felt proud to be a part of Denny Bros who have helped Suffolk Breakthrough Breast Cancer with its support of the event, making sure that all the money raised goes directly to the charity to help with its exceptional work.’
