Total gets ready for action 19/05/2010

The UK’s largest processing and packaging exhibition will open its doors this Tuesday, providing thousands of visitors with the most comprehensive insight into the latest developments across both these sectors.

Total Processing & Packaging 2010, which runs for three days at the NEC, Birmingham, will showcase a wide range of new product launches and latest innovations from over 500 participating companies, supplying a variety of end markets including food & drink, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, household products and chemicals.

In addition to the array of working machinery and equipment that will be demonstrated live, the popular Packaging Innovation Hub provides a focal point for areas such as packaging materials, containers and pack design.

Total Processing & Packaging also incorporates a wealth of visitor attractions.

The Packaging Innovations seminar programme will debate a number of current industry topics including the future of packaging, resource efficient products and packaging, the emergence of social media as a marketing tool, nanotechnology, and RFID and brand protection.  Top names taking part include B&Q, PZ Cussons, GlaxoSmithKline, Hotel Chocolat, Euromonitor International, Reckitt Benckiser, Reach Further, Plastique, Holmes & Marchant, MPMA and the Packaging Federation.

In addition, The Packaging Innovation Hub incorporates the Design Challenge, where major pack and machinery manufacturers, and leading design houses will display their concepts for the creation of new products, market applications and consumer experiences.  Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite concept, with the winner announced at the end of each day.

The dedicated Interphex Hub for the pharmaceutical sector will also host an in depth seminar programme.  Companies taking part include R5 Pharmaceuticals, Atacama Labs, Upperton, Oystar Manesty, Cognex, Hapa and Performance PharmaTech covering subjects such as anti-counterfeiting and mass serialisation, Track & Trace technologies, and new technologies for formulation development and GMP manufacture.

In the Technology Innovations Theatre, the keynote presentation will outline a revolutionary microwave sterilisation process for low acid foods, developed at Washington State University (WSU).

Other highlights at Total Processing & Packaging include the Packaging Advice and Energy Advice clinics and the Robotics & Industrial Vision Pavilion in association with BARA and UKIVA.
