Retailers in the UK that want to encourage shoppers to eat a more healthy diet may want to follow the lead of an American supermarket by investing in special printed labels.
Walmart is using a standard logo across all the items it believes qualify as healthy eating products, Reuters reports.
This should help to inform consumers of which products will be better for them when they go around with their trollies and baskets.
With obesity proving a major public health issue in the UK as well as the US, British retailers may therefore find this a good way to help people improve their lifestyles.
According to Walmart, it has taken the move because a standard label has not yet been introduced by the US Food and Drug Administration.
However, it confirmed it would be willing to switch at a later date should an industry-wide design eventually be unveiled by the regulator.
"At this point, we feel like our customers need help right now," said Andrea Thomas, senior vice-president of sustainability at Walmart.
