Companies that use multipage and piggyback labels on their products have been encouraged to do their bit for the planet.
The Welsh Assembly Government is keen for retailers and food manufacturers to minimise their environmental impact by using less packaging.
Environment minister Jane Davidson said this would help to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill.
"Preventing waste and recycling everything they can makes real business sense," she commented.
Ms Davidson said the Assembly wants nearly three-quarters of the waste it produces to be recycled by 2025.
This, she continued, would pave the way for there to be no waste at all by 2050.
The calls come ahead of the introduction of a 5p minimum charge for single-use carrier bags in Wales.
Ms Davidson said this approach is a popular idea with the public and should help to cut the number of carrier bags given out across the country.
