Denny Bros and DVLA partner up to offer hundreds of tests

A partnership that saw Denny Bros Group offer a section of its carpark to support driving examinations has been hailed a success.

More than 900 learner drivers and motorcyclists took their test over a seven-week period at the headquarters of Denny Bros in Bury St Edmunds.

The company came to the rescue after the town base of the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVLA) in St Andrews Street North had to close due to refurbishment work.

Andrew Griffiths, DVSA’s local driving test manager in Bury St Edmunds, said: “We thank Denny Bros for working with us to ensure no tests were cancelled as a result of the refurbishment of the driving test centre.

“The project was a success”

“We’ve had very positive feedback from instructors and learners in the area, who remarked that the Denny Bros headquarters on Kempson Way was very suitable for the task.

“Overall the project was a success, with my thanks going to the staff at Denny Bros and DVSA who made it happen to save Suffolk’s learners from any unnecessary disruption.”

The partnership saw Denny Bros allocate a dedicated area of their expansive car park at the front of their headquarters in Kempson Way, ensuring there was disability access and a canopy to shelter from any poor weather.

Mr Griffiths paid particular tribute to Sharon Gammell, Conference Administrator at Denny Bros, who managed all the logistics involved.

“Couldn’t have gone any better”

He added: “The whole thing couldn’t have gone any better and Sharon was instrumental in making it all work so well.

“We have wanted to offer driving tests in a different part of Bury St Edmunds for a while and this was definitely a success. It is wonderful to have this contingency plan should we need it in the future.”

Sharon said: “We were delighted to offer the space for Andrew and the DVLA team to enable them to provide hundreds of tests for learner drivers and motorcyclists.

“Denny Bros prides itself on being a strong part of the West Suffolk community and this was another prime example of that.”
